What's Been Going On Lately....
I have a bunch of possible posts running thru my brain, but just haven't gotten the opportunity to sit down and fully write one out. So, just a quick update...things have been alittle stressful this week. We had one "hell" of a wicked wind and rain storm the other day that caused our power to go out. Where we live is prone to this as we have discovered over the last year of living in our rental home. Back last August/September, we lost our power for 4 days during Hurriance Irene and then last October, we went without power for 8 days during a freak snowstorm and that was just terrible. So, yes, we are use to it but don't want to get too use to it and it has gotten really OLD now. When we lose power, we lose everything...including water which means no flushing toliets or taking showers - it is so inhuman that after the second day, you just feel horrible. So, after finding out we might be without power till today at 6 p.m. (that would be 3 days without it), we decided last night, enough was enough. Time to breakdown and get a portable generator. Of course, (as we jokely said to one another on our way out to Lowe's - we will return and the power will be back), we arrived home with generator in toe and yes, the power was restored. We don't regret our spare of the moment decision one bit, because we truly believe there will be more storms coming our way this year and we just want to be ready. We want to be able to plug in our fridge, run some lights and possibility hook our well pump up as well. We would have loved to get a full house generator where it automatically turns on, but since this rental home isn't ours, this is the alternative.
Yes, I will admit all though I love living in the woods and enjoying the country feel of our area, I am still a girl that loves her creature comforts!

That storm was something the other night! We were very lucky to have very little damage. I did see a massive tree down across 95 in Greenwich! We bought a generator after Irene last year - haven't needed it yet and I would like to keep it that way.
ReplyDeleteIt's times like that when I am glad that I don't have kids...! After the massive power outage in August 2003, I bought one of those windup radios for emergency situations (which also has a light in it). Put it on a shelf in the closet & there it sits, but I am glad we have it, just in case. Hope having your generator gives you some peace of mind!
